What Works: How Local Governments Have Made the Leap from Measurement to Measurement & Management

Packed with more than 70 case studies that highlight the power of performance measurement and management, What Works: How Local Governments Have Made the Leap from Measurement to Management from ICMA Press received a Silver Excel Award from the Society of National Association Publishers (SNAP). SNAP selected award winners who took “bold chances in editorial and design” and said that “winning publications demonstrate the importance of conveying content in a variety of formats.”

What Works was written by ICMA Center for Performance Measurement™ staff, and its cases illustrate how performance measurement promotes positive change in 15 different service local government areas. Cases are one-to-three pages long, making them a quick read.

“The award really belongs to the jurisdictions that provided the success stories,” said Mike Lawson, Center Director. “The featured communities show how they were able to cut costs, improve service delivery, and better prioritize budget decisions by using performance measurement data.”
